Many women choose to wait to announce their pregnancy until after the 12-week test.
But when you’re a celebrity in the spotlight, it can be difficult to hide as paparazzi try to catch you from every angle.
But celebrity stylist Ellis Ranson has revealed the clever fashion tricks that several celebrities, including Kate Ferdinand, Dani Dyer and Ferne McCann, have used to hide their bumps for just a little longer.
The fashionista, who is always the first to know about pregnancies, explains how she sits down with celebrities to discuss how long they’ll keep it a secret and what events they’ll attend in the meantime.
She went on to say that miniskirts and blazers are always a safe option because, in most cases, the shape of your legs stays the same until late pregnancy, while blazers are boxy, so they’re great for hiding your bump. Ta.
Ellis points out that when Kate Ferdinand kept her pregnancy a secret with her second child, Shay, last year, she opted for jumpers, long skirts and trendy trench coats.
“I pulled the costume into the narrowest part of my waist to create the illusion,” she told the Express.
“The ideal style is to go in at the waist and then out. This also allows you to show some skin.”
Love Island winner Dani Dyer is also one of Ellis’ famous clients, turning to her when she was pregnant with twins Summer and Starr with footballer Jarrod Bowen in May last year.
“It was difficult because Dani is very petite and we were expecting twins,” the fashion maven admits.
“High-waisted skirts were a style we loved to wear together.”
Ellis’ top tips include choosing dark colors. This is because you may inadvertently draw attention to what is visible, such as your hands or feet, and hide what you are trying to hide.
She also recommends prints and trendy baggy jeans, but warns that neutral color palettes and skin-tight clothing are more likely to draw attention to your growing bump.
Meanwhile, reality star Ferne McCann gave birth to son Finty with partner Rory Haynes in July.
Ellis said she liked wearing loungewear during the first trimester, but that quickly changed once the secret was out in the open.
She points out that unlike previous years, more celebrities are enjoying showing off their bumps, thanks to “creative and over-the-top options.”
