The founder of Immortals of Aveum developer Ascendant Studios, which recently laid off 45% of its employees, revealed in a recent interview that the company has “many more projects” in the works. This includes further exploration of the world of Immortals and what lies beyond.
Studio founder Brett Robbins (who was also the director of Immortals of Aveum) touched on recent gaming failures and discussed what led to the studio’s debut title’s rapid downfall.
“Learn more from failure”
In a recent interview with GamesIndustry, Bret Robbins opened up about Immortals of Aveum and got candid about how the game failed. It was only a few days ago that copies of Immortals of Aveum were on sale for just £1 in his chain of British supermarkets, but since the game was discontinued in August 2023, Its relevance has almost completely faded.
You learn more from your failures and mistakes than your successes. People should hear all kinds of stories, not just about the big breaks, but also the times that didn’t work out. That doesn’t mean they’re not good or that their stories shouldn’t be told.
Robins said that Ascendant will be releasing 2023 films such as Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, Armored Core 6, Starfield, Alan Wake 2, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Spider-Man 2. He explained that he was fully aware that there were a lot of releases scheduled for the second half of the year.
“We were completely lost in the noise,” Robbins said of the group. He explained that the studio was at one point considering pushing back the release to February 2024, as delays to “polish up” the game ultimately made the timing situation worse.
Even with the full support of Electronic Arts, it was overwhelming competition for Ascendant.
It was a series of big games like Murderer, and we were a new studio and people didn’t know who we were. There are some questions about whether our marketing was targeting the right people. We just haven’t raised the awareness we need.
Early trailers received a fairly positive response, and Ascendant pushed out a title that was considered to be truly innovative, but ultimately Immortals of Aveum failed in a dramatically short period of time.
Robbins declined to say what projects the Ascendant Studios team is working on. did GamesIndustry confirms there are more games in the production pipeline.
