Leaked iPhone 17 details, iPhone 15 feature fixes, Apple’s AI promise, long-term iOS support, MacBook Pro repair details, Car Play’s big win, the future of Apple Arcade, and potential iRing.
Apple Loop is here to remind you of some of the many discussions surrounding Apple over the past seven days. Also check out Forbes’ weekly digest of Android news.
Fix embarrassing reactions on iPhone 15
We’ve all done the air quote gesture or had CGI digital confetti appear around us during a Facetime call. As impressive as it may seem, Apple’s latest enhancements may not be welcome. Thankfully, iOS 17.4 addresses this issue. It’s not a fix per se, given the need to be responsive to the situation, but it does hand over some control to developers and users.
“With the next iPhone update, and the next iPadOS and macOS Sonoma updates, developers will be able to choose to turn these reactions off by default, and it will be up to them, or perhaps It will be up to the user.”

Always On Promise for iPhone 17
Always-on displays are a staple of Android devices, but Apple limited always-on displays to iPhone Pro models because cheaper iPhone models have older displays that aren’t compatible. That is changing. The vanilla iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models launching in September will use older technology, but the iPhone 17 family will debut a new style of screen display and the entire new iPhone portfolio will be able to run always-on applications. It will look like this. :
“According to a new report from The Elec…the plan is for 60Hz displays using a technology called low-temperature polycrystalline silicon to continue on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus this fall. And on the iPhone 17 series. We plan to switch entirely to low-temperature polycrystalline oxide panels.”

Apple promises big things with AI
Apple CEO Tim Cook has repeatedly told investors that the company’s approach to leveraging artificial intelligence will break new ground, but what exactly that new ground will be? It is not clear whether this will happen. The answer will no doubt drive much of the conversation at June’s Worldwide Developer Conference. So Apple will launch a tangible AI effort and contrast it with the desktop and mobile software of countless rival manufacturers.
“But the question today is: Does Mr. Cook, who has been largely silent on the issue so far, really believe that Apple will take a new direction on AI? Or does Mr. Cook really believe that Apple will take a new direction on AI? Does it simply mean that Apple will break new ground with its AI technology this year?Knowing Cook, “he’s definitely talking about the former. We’ll likely learn more about what AI capabilities will be in iOS 18 in the coming months, but in the meantime, investors should remain positive on the stock. I’m listening to your message.”

Long support period for iOS 18
Apple doesn’t specify how long it will support the hardware like Android manufacturers do at launch. We know that the latest Pixel and Galaxy flagships come with seven years of support and security updates, and we can assume that Apple will offer similar services, but there’s no guarantee. It’s worth noting that the next release of iOS, version 18, will support devices dating back to 2018’s iPhone XR. 6 is smaller than 7, but Android flagships in 2018 only offered four years of support at most.
“iOS 18 is compatible with the iPhone XR, and thereby also iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max models with the same A12 Bionic chip, according to a proven private account that shared the iOS 18 build number today. According to a post on X, upcoming iOS updates…If this rumor is true, iOS 18 will be compatible with the same iPhone models as iOS 17.

Apple begins repairing MacBook Pro M3
Apple has added the MacBook Pro M3 model to its repair program, giving consumers access to information and parts alongside Apple Store repairs and Apple Authorized Repair Centers. This also includes diagnostic tools used by our service center.
“Additionally, starting next month, Apple will make remote diagnostic tools available to customers using M3 Macs. The tool, which Apple first introduced late last year for M2 Macs and iPhone 15s, will allow users to can be tested to determine “optimal part functionality”. and performance while also identifying parts that may need repair. ”

Car Play wins, Apple Car loses
With Apple reportedly halting development of its own branded cars, is there a winner in Cupertino? Chance Miller believes he has a team developing his CarPlay software that allows iPhones to communicate with cars.
“Apple spent at least a decade developing the Apple Car. I think they had a very good idea of how an in-car infotainment system would work. My guess is that these… We believe some of these ideas are coming to fruition in the form of next-generation CarPlay. But anyone who follows Apple knows that there are other things that Apple came up with and saved for the final car. We know you have ideas, and now that Apple Car is retired, those ideas can be brought to life through CarPlay, Apple Maps, and Vision Pro.”

Apple Arcade’s fragile future
MobileGamer.biz’s Neil Long takes a closer look at Apple Arcade through interviews and feedback from numerous developers. Apple’s gated gaming community was launched as a major spot with his iPhone launch in 2019, but its bright future has dimmed.
“One developer said there was a ‘smell of death’ in the service, while others suggested there were now whispers of the service being restarted. Payments for Apple Arcade titles have been declining for years, our sources said.”After the change in strategy, original games will get the green light unless they are tied to a big family-friendly IP. There are very few. ”

And finally…
Apple’s research and development team is clearly working on a smart ring wearable device, as evidenced by various patents related to this technology. There’s no guarantee that published patents will be commercialized, but with growing interest in smart rings from the likes of Oura, Samsung, and Honor, it’s appropriate for Apple to turn to consumer products. Is this the right time?
“The growth of the global smart ring market is also gaining momentum due to the participation of leading technology companies,” the report said. The report also states that Apple is working on developing its own smart ring, especially due to evidence of related patents. ”
