KOTA BARU, June 29 — The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) has urged mosque institutions across the country to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) technology in line with the government’s aim to digitise service delivery.
Sirajuddin Suhaimi, deputy director-general for policy at the ministry, stressed that mosque institutions have evolved significantly to adapt to different roles in today’s dynamic environment.

He said that with rapid advances in information technology, mosques need to provide diverse facilities and platforms to attract worshippers more effectively.
“Therefore, I believe the time has come for mosque institutions to explore AI technologies such as virtual mosque tours, intelligent mosque systems, real-time donation platforms and member databases,” he told reporters at the 2024 Nusantara Mosque Convention here today.
Sirajuddin added that Jakim aims to work closely with mosques across the country to implement these initiatives.
“There is still room for further improvements, so we predict that we could potentially deploy AI applications within the next one to two years,” he said.
He also noted that mosques in the Malay Archipelago could be pioneers in developing AI applications, especially as they have many young imams who are adept at incorporating technology into their roles. — Bernama
