Created for the Japanese market, ‘Make It Unbelievable’ shows the unexpected results of creating incredibly great-looking visual assets in Canva.
UltraSuperNew Tokyo is a multi-channel campaign that showcases Canva’s promise to make creativity accessible to everyone, with anyone using the platform to create impressive visual assets without the need for extensive design education. “Make It Unbelievable” has been launched. There’s only one problem: The campaign emphasizes the fact that it’s hard to believe that someone with no design experience could create such great designs.
“Make It Unbelievable” features Takeshi Kitano, a world-renowned author of comedy and action films, an iconic Japanese public figure, and the Japanese author who recently produced a biopic based on Takeshi’s life. Film producer and actor troupe Hitori will appear. Specially chosen to fit their famous on-screen personas, they quickly return to these characters when a proud Takeshi shows Hitori the Gekidan the presentation he created in Canva for his new venture. Because the level of his work is so high, the troupe does not believe that Kitano really created it himself, and they tell him so. From there, things go sideways and escalate to a dramatic extent, with both stars sticking to their version of the story until the very end.
Founded in 2013, Canva is a free online visual communication and collaboration platform with a mission to empower everyone around the world to design. With a simple drag-and-drop user interface and a wide range of templates from presentations, documents, websites, social media graphics, posters, apparel to videos, plus fonts, stock photos, illustrations, video footage, and audio clips. Anyone can take their ideas and create something beautiful.
François Claverie, group creative director, said: “No one would probably doubt anything Takeshi Kitano says…But for this campaign, we needed someone to do just that, and Gekidan Hitori has chosen one person to do that for our team.” We’re just glad he came out unharmed.”
“Make It Unbelievable” is currently airing on Japanese TV, YouTube, and social media channels nationwide. IREP Co., Ltd. is in charge of media.
