Lifestyle blog claims Maine lobster rolls are overrated

Every summer, people flock to Maine for a variety of reasons. Whether it’s to enjoy coastal amenities, vast natural expanses, or simply to enjoy the state’s great restaurants.

But with so many visitors flocking to Maine each year, it’s inevitable that some will be unimpressed. Maybe the place didn’t meet their expectations, the crowd was more than they expected, or maybe the food just didn’t add up. You can’t please everyone all the time.

That’s why when you hear something is overrated in Maine, it’s best to ask why and draw your own conclusions. And did you know? Lifestyle blog Cheapism has identified lobster rolls as the most overrated food in the entire Northeast.

Some of the things Cheapism says about lobster rolls aren’t necessarily wrong. Cheapism claims that if you visit Maine in the summer, you’ll find lobster rolls literally everywhere, from fast food chains to upscale restaurants. That’s true.

But it’s also hard to imagine visiting another state that features a particular food and not seeing it on the menu at every restaurant. It’s simply a given.

Cheapism also had other obvious complaints. The lobster rolls were overpriced, but the quality wasn’t worth the extra cost. There is some validity to that statement. But not all burgers, fries, and salads are created equal. The same applies to lobster rolls.

This isn’t the first time lobster rolls have been called overrated. A prominent New York food critic nearly a decade ago thought lobster rolls were highly overrated. The food critic wrote, “Even good lobster rolls are always disappointing.”

Are Maine lobster rolls overrated? perhaps. But that’s not the case with Maine seafood. It’s elite and absolutely worth the price.
