The Llama 3 model comes in two sizes, 8B and 70B parameters, which significantly improves text-based responses. They demonstrated increased diversity of responses to prompts, fewer false rejections, and improved reasoning ability.
The model also shows a deeper understanding of instructions and improved code writing ability.

According to Meta’s blog post, the Llama 3 outperformed similarly sized models in certain benchmark tests, including Google’s Gemma and Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude 3, and Mistral 7B.

On the MMLU benchmark, which measures general knowledge, the 8B version of Llama 3 outperformed both Gemma 7B and Mistral 7B, and the 70B version slightly outperformed Gemini Pro 1.5.

It is noteworthy that Meta does not mention OpenAIGPT-4 is in that post. The company also emphasized that while benchmark testing of AI models is helpful, it is not perfect as the datasets used for benchmarking are often part of the model’s training.
why is it important: In early March, Anthropic announced its latest generative AI model, Claude 3, and claimed it was superior to rivals such as OpenAI’s GPT-4.
Similarly, Elon Musk xAI announced a major update to Grok that includes improvements across the board to a variety of metrics.
Meanwhile, OpenAI plans to release a “significantly improved” GPT-5 model later this year.
