Lifetime, which just released the documentary “Where Is Wendy Williams?,” announced Friday a new film that “sheds light on the controversial court-appointed conservatorship system.”
The film, set to star Melissa Joan Hart and La La Anthony, is tentatively titled “The Bad Guardian,” and depicts real-life conservatorship cases like those involving Williams and Britney Spears. “Where’s Wendy Williams,” which was filmed before producers learned of Williams’ diagnosis of aphasia and dementia, depicts the former talk show host’s family feuding with her guardian.
The former “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” star fights to save her father Jason (Eric Pierpoint) “from the clutches of a corrupt and greedy court-appointed ‘conservator’,” according to a press release. She will play Lee, a woman.
Anthony from “Chi” plays the title character Janet, who quickly takes charge of every aspect of Jason’s life and cuts Lee off while Lee puts his father in a nursing home and sells his home and worldly possessions. .
“As the whistleblowers around Jason meet an untimely end, Lee finds the strength to defeat her guardian and the corrupt system that supports her,” Lifetime tastes.
Bad Guardian is produced by Allegheny Image Factory and produced by Jeffrey Tinnell and Robert Tinnell. Elizabeth Stephen will serve as executive producer and Claudia Meyers will direct from a script by Ashley Gable. The release date has not been announced yet.

The failure of the conservatorship was also the premise of the 2020 Netflix film “I Care a Lot,” starring Rosamund Pike as an opportunistic conservator.
Spears’ 13-year conservatorship, the most high-profile celebrity lawsuit over the star’s right to make her own decisions, was ended by a California judge in November 2021.
