RoboSquad Revolution, the game where you blow up stupid robots while transforming into parodies of your favorite celebrities, has added a new character: Lionel Striker. Lionel Striker, also known as Futuristic Forward, is the latest parody hologram to join the game’s increasingly ridiculous roster of celebrity lookalikes.
For those who aren’t familiar with the sport, Lionel Striker is modeled after the Argentine soccer player (or soccer player, depending on where you live) Lionel Messi. Fittingly, this character also has a special move: sending his enemies into the afterlife with his world-famous kick. There’s also an emote that lets him show off his fancy ball-juggling skills.
Much like the real Lionel Messi, Mr. Striker is half-man, half-machine, but in this case that can be taken literally. To distinguish the character from the real article, and perhaps to avoid possible lawsuits, developer Zorans Resistance provided robotic arms and legs to complement Stryker’s award-winning smile. The overall character design looks more like something you’d see in Deus Ex than a soccer field, which is perfectly fine.
Robo Squad Revolution TL;DR
RoboSquad Revolution is a tongue-in-cheek arena shooter where you take on the role of a goofy robot and take apart other goofy robots in imaginative ways. The game launched in early access last year, but has received little attention until now. However, recently it has started to gain a bit of attention thanks to celebrity parodies, such as the aforementioned Lionel Stryker.
In other games, an announcer might proclaim your success in a deep voice with cool particle effects around your portrait, but here you can transform into a celebrity hologram. This transformation not only gives you a sense of pride and accomplishment™, but also gives you access to special finishing moves and emotes.
Lionel Stryker is the most recent celebrity to receive the RoboSquad treatment, but there are many others worth mentioning. Some notable examples include Elias Tusk (Elon Musk), Pelvis Rexley (Elvis Presley), Sailor Twist (Taylor Swift), and my personal favorite, Clark Thacker. Berg (Mark Zuckerberg). Or rather, he looks more like a lizardman than usual.
