Meta has partnered with LG Electronics to “accelerate” the social media company’s augmented reality (XR) plans and other artificial intelligence (AI) ambitions.
LG announced that its executives met with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in Seoul on Wednesday to discuss next-generation XR “device development.”
The South Korea-headquartered electronics company said the partnership aims to “combine the strengths of both companies across products, content, services and platforms” to innovate in the “fast-growing virtual space” of XR. Stated.
According to the U.S. Government Accountability Office, XR is a technology that combines the physical and digital worlds for interaction and perception, including augmented reality, mixed reality, and virtual reality.
LG CEO William Cho has experienced Meta products, including the Meta Quest 3 virtual reality headset and Ray Ban Meta smart glasses, and has “expressed strong interest” in the company’s technological advances.
“LG envisions that by integrating Meta’s platform with the unique content and service capabilities of its TV business, it will be able to create a unique ecosystem in the XR space,” the company said in a release.
The technology company suggested that the XR device will be the next generation of personal devices, going beyond the capabilities of current devices. Wearable devices also “significantly expand customer interactions,” LG said.
Mr. Zuckerberg will meet with LG executives on the second leg of his three-nation Asian tour, and people familiar with the matter say they are focused on discussing the partnership.
