A surprise visitor came to Instagram. Meta AI is the company’s AI-powered chatbot built into DMs that can answer questions, write poems, and generate images with simple text prompts. Meta AI has warned of its arrival and has spent the past few months adding chatbots to products like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. We all knew Instagram would be next.
“Our AI-powered experiences are in various stages of development, and we are publicly testing different experiences to a limited extent,” a Meta spokesperson told Engadget. For some on Engadget, this feature appeared directly on his Instagram in his messaging inbox.

The company is asking a judge to dismiss Epic’s latest motion.
Last month, Epic Games filed a motion asking a California judge to hold Apple in contempt for what it says is a violation of its 2021 injunction. Apple is now asking a judge to dismiss Epic’s claims, arguing that the motion is an attempt to “micromanage Apple’s business operations in a way that increases Epic’s profitability.” Epic called Apple’s “so-called compliance a sham” and accused the company’s recent moves of violating the injunction. Apple claims to have acted pursuant to the injunction, writing in a new filing that “the purpose of the injunction is to make information about alternative purchase options more readily available, not to prescribe commercial terms.” No,” he said.

Search giant Google, which brought in more than $73 billion in profits last year, is protesting a California bill that would require it and other platforms to pay media.
