Thinking about picking up a Meta Quest 2 and seeing Oculus Quest 2 name everywhere? Here’s why.
Can’t tell the difference between Meta Quest 2 and Oculus Quest 2? Don’t worry. we’ve got you covered.
Understanding the difference between Meta Quest 2 and Oculus Quest 2 can be a bit confusing. Both VR headsets are the same in terms of hardware, but are different brands. There’s a simple reason for this. Oculus was acquired by Facebook in 2014 for his $2 billion, but the headset was also rebranded after the social media company rebranded to Meta in 2021.
If you’re not sure which one to choose, or you’re curious about the differences between the two, here’s everything you need to know.
Meta Quest 2 vs Oculus Quest 2: Hardware
Meta Quest 2 and Oculus Quest 2 have the same hardware because they have the same system, but they are different brands. This means that games and titles will run the same on both systems, and the titles available on both VR headsets will also be the same. Search for specifications on the official Meta and Oculus store pages and you’ll find the following information:

As you can see from the hardware specs, everything from the processor to the speakers is identical, and so is the performance. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that the Meta Quest 2 headset will likely be manufactured much later than his Oculus Quest 2 headset. Also, as with any device, newer hardware may provide better performance.
Meta Quest 2 vs Oculus Quest 2: Branding
The brand name of both headsets is the only difference between the two. The first thing you’ll notice about this is on the box of the headset itself. The side of the Meta Quest 2 box has a Meta infinity style logo, and the side of the Oculus Quest 2 box has an Oculus oval style logo. The word “Oculus” is combined in large font on the side of the box.
On the front of the visor of the headset itself there is a small recessed logo that corresponds to the brand to which the product falls. However, the branding within the headset and the virtual environment itself has been completely updated to be meta-branded, regardless of which headset you choose.
