Meta reportedly refused Google Parent company alphabet‘s proposal is for the two companies to partner on virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) headsets.
Alphabet had proposed that the Meta would be powered using Google’s Android XR software platform. meta quest headset, Reuters report Friday (March 1), citing paywall article By The Information.
A Google spokesperson declined to comment on the report when contacted by PYMNTS.
Mehta did not immediately respond to PYMNTS’ request for comment.
According to the report, Meta plans to develop new VR headsets using Quest software and is in talks with hardware companies about building those devices.
Currently, Meta’s Quest headset uses a version of Google’s Android operating system, the report said.
