Meta announced Thursday that it will remove the Facebook News tab in the Bookmarks section for users in the United States and Australia, just months after taking similar action in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
The move comes as Meta officials claim they are moving away from hard news and political content to give users the media they want to see across their apps, including Threads and Instagram.
In addition to this, Meta is increasing pressure on news publishers and news organizations in various countries such as Canada and Indonesia to pay to display their content on the app.
“As a company, we have to focus our time and resources on the things people have said they want to see more of on the platform, such as short-form video.” It’s down more than 80% in the last year. We know people don’t come to Facebook for news or political content; they come to connect with others and discover new opportunities, passions, and interests. ,” Mehta said in the post.

Facebook’s parent company said the announcement does not affect existing Facebook News agreements with publishers based in Australia, France and Germany.
Meta also reaffirmed its commitment to fact-checking networks and content review procedures.
