BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – A local favorite in Mexico Beach is celebrating its anniversary on Saturday.
Cathey’s Hardware and Tackle is celebrating 50 years in business.
Cathey’s Hardware and Tackle opened in 1974. Even now, several years later, the momentum continues.
Former Mexico Beach Mayor Al Cathy inherited a hardware store from his parents. To celebrate her golden anniversary on Friday and Saturday, Kathy invited all local residents and employees for hot dogs, cupcakes, and good company.
“Mexico Beach is a place that is truly important to us and we are just grateful for the opportunity to serve a community like Mexico Beach. We just want to remind everyone that we are open for business. Thank you to our community for 50 years of wonderful memories and friends,” said Al Cathey, owner of Ace Hardware.
Kathy says his store wouldn’t be what it is today without his son, Lee. He says Lee was one of the main reasons their business survived Hurricane Michael.
Kathy also said the hardware store’s future is in good hands and she is grateful to the Mexico Beach community.
