Mia Moretti has been a part of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival for the past 15 years, performing her hits at fringe events, pool parties, after-parties, and more. But 2024 is the year she soundtracked the festival’s DoLab stage on April 14th, wrapping up Coachella’s first weekend before closing on April 21st.
With years of experience under his belt, Moretti said he has prepared clothing for the weather.
“I know exactly what the desert requires. The wind can be really bad at night, and it can be dusty, so you don’t have to worry about getting dust in your eyes or getting dirt or sunscreen in your eyes.” ” Moretti told WWD. “These little things just happen naturally when you keep rubbing it in for a few years. So I think my style should be really easy. But it shouldn’t be too serious and not too staged or too planned. There’s nothing to do. But it’s still fun.”
Moretti chose a sheer brown monogrammed top from Balmain, blue plaid Ottolinger pants, white Desigual sneakers, and red sunglasses from Celine.
She describes the relationship between fashion and music as “codependent.” For her, it allows the audience to be in sync with the performer’s mood.
“On stage, we can’t not see what someone is wearing because we’re watching. It affects the entire show and completely influences the artist’s performance. To some degree, when you feel uncomfortable with what you’re wearing, or when you feel great about what you’re wearing, and luckily most artists Because you can notice it. It really helps you get the best performance possible.”
Moretti also toned down the flamboyance. This is one of the many events she frequently attends as a DJ, including the WIF Max Mara Face of the Future Awards event in LA last November and her spin at the opening of BR’s Banana Republic. It’s very different from a cocktail party. A home improvement store on Melrose Avenue.
“I come from a world of so many fashion events, especially fast-fashion after-parties, and I always had my hair and makeup done because it was part of the routine,” Moretti said. “And now I’m open to making music and putting out my music and doing new shows. Usually there aren’t that many photographers around at any given time, and especially here at Coachella, I’m open to making music and putting out my music and doing new shows. There’s no carpet or anything to worry about.
“Everyone is just having a good time. Less is more here,” Moretti added.
Sure, they had a good time. Moretti’s longtime friend Katy Perry also attended. Ms. Perry wore a Moretti-branded concert T-shirt with an illustration of a bikini-clad woman with pepperoni pizza slices turned into bra cups. “It was the first time in my life that I had made merchandise. It was a very important occasion for me, so I had no choice but to do it,” Moretti said. “I made her a bikini t-shirt. A bikini t-shirt for her, like the ones you buy at Venice Beach in California. Her body looks hot. I’ve never given her a big t-shirt.
Venues have changed as Moretti explores producing her own music, most recently an EP with DJ Minx, but her goal remains the same.
“For a lot of people, my job is to help them forget about the day – work, family, stress – and have fun. Sometimes it’s hard to fill that time,” Moretti said. explained. “If you’re in a funk or you’ve had a bad day… now it’s like, let’s shake off whatever’s left and start fresh from here. We’re in the party now. It brings energy and spreads it.”
