Earlier today, Microsoft released the March 2024 Patch Tuesday update for Windows 10 and Windows 11. Updates for the latest versions of Windows were delivered via KB5035845 and KB5035853, respectively.
With the latter, apart from the security patch, Microsoft has fixed an issue that caused installation issues in the previous Windows 11 Patch Tuesday release (KB5034765). Affected systems fail approximately 96% of the time with a “0x800F0922” error message. At the time, Microsoft couldn’t fully figure out what the problem was, but it did provide a detailed workaround.
In the patch notes, the company said:
This update addresses known issues that may impact the February 2024 security and preview updates. It may not install and the device may stop responding at 96%. The error code is “0x800F0922”. The error message is, “It didn’t go as planned. Don’t worry, we’ll revert your changes. Leave your computer on.”

On Windows 11 devices that are trying to install the February 2024 Security Update (KB5034765) released on February 13, 2024, and the non-security preview update (KB5034848) released on February 29, 2024. , problems may occur during the update process. When the update download reaches 96% completion, the installation may fail and the device may roll back to the previous update that was installed.
This error may result in the following message:
