Microsoft will continue to support the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset. Today, the company announced that it has released a version of its OneNote note-taking app for Vision Pro.
Microsoft said in a blog post that the OneNote app for headsets supports many of the same features that are also available on the iPad version. Features include:
- Write notes, create digital notebooks, and jot down notes.
- Use important and to-do tags to highlight notes you can’t miss.
- Password protect your notes and control permissions when sharing them with others.
- Sync your notes to the cloud (OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint) to easily access them from anywhere.
- Share ideas and notes with friends and colleagues.
The OneNote app can be used with Vision Pro through a traditional keyboard and mouse that connects to the headset via Bluetooth. You can also use it completely hands-free using Vision Pro’s unique hand gesture technology.
Microsoft plans to update the OneNote app for headsets with additional features in the future. These include support for Copilot. The company is working on making the Microsoft Authenticator app work with Vision Pro, and two-factor authentication is also in the works.
At this time, OneNote for the Vision Pro is only available for personal Microsoft accounts and work accounts that aren’t directly managed by the employee’s organization.
Microsoft first announced plans to release Office apps such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Microsoft Teams, for the Vision Pro in June 2023, the same day Apple first announced the headset. Support for these Office apps began when this device was launched in February for $3,499.
Apple is currently scheduled to release its quarterly results on May 2nd. I hope we get at least a little insight into how Vision Pro sales have fared in the first few months.
