Earlier today, we published an article in which Microsoft published detailed ways to work around issues affecting the latest Patch Tuesday update. This issue leads to installation issues as it can get stuck at around 96% and fail with the “0x800F0922” error code.
One of our active forum members, ‘leonsk29’, brought another issue to our attention through a comment on that article. For that issue, the latest stable version of Edge, 122.0.2365.63, causes the Microsoft browser to display the message “There is not enough memory to open this page” or “There is a problem with this page.” , an “out of memory” error code is displayed in both cases. Users have noticed that disabling extensions and add-ons or closing tabs does not resolve the cause.
This Out of Memory (OOM) issue appears to be the result of a buggy Enhanced Web Protection implementation in the latest stable version of Edge. Users on various forums online seem to have confirmed that disabling the advanced security option resolves the issue.
Microsoft likely took note of the issue after publishing the news and pulled the update from its download servers.
The company is currently publishing a new stable channel release that fixes this issue. The release notes confirmed that a network-related bug was preventing the site from loading properly within Microsoft Defender Application Guard (MDAG), which manifested itself as the OOM error we previously described.
Full release notes for the latest Edge stable version 122.0.2365.66 are below.
Version 122.0.2365.66: March 1, 2024
Fixed various bugs and performance issues.
correction
- Resolved a network issue that prevented sites from loading within the Microsoft Defender Application Guard window.
For your information, Microsoft Defender Application Guard (MDAG) is designed to help isolate enterprise-defined untrusted sites by opening them in an isolated Hyper-V enabled container separate from the host OS. This is a security feature.
The company released this feature in 2016 as “Windows Defender Application Guard,” but it was only recently deprecated and is on its way to retirement.
