After 17 years with the company, Ralph Groene, Microsoft’s corporate vice president of design, Windows, and devices, announced earlier today that he is “pleased to announce that he is retiring.” You may remember Groene for his contributions to the Surface tablet and the striking design that was consistent across the Windows, Xbox, and HoloLens OS experiences.
However, Groene is best known for the bold designs of all Surface PCs, including the Surface Book, Surface Laptop Studio, and Surface Duo.

Groene’s well-deserved departure comes weeks after Microsoft announced it would reunite its Windows and Surface teams under Pavan Davuluri’s leadership. Davuluri will lead Windows and Surface development, similar to his predecessor Panos Panay before leaving Microsoft.
The Microsoft veteran did not provide details about his retirement plans. Nevertheless, we wish him the best in his endeavors.
