Microsoft may be planning some really smart AI-powered features for the Paint app in Windows 11.
If you recall, yesterday we reported on clues that indicated: Paint’s mysterious AI functionX’s PhantomOfEarth (formerly Twitter) posted that this feature could be something called “LiveCanvas.”
Although the leaker did not openly say what this is, MS Power User (via TechRadar) made the interesting observation that LiveCanvas is Leonardo.Ai’s generative AI tool.
What Leonardo.Ai’s LiveCanvas does is create art in real time while you’re drawing something. What this means in practice is that you can take two panels side by side, sketch a small doodle, and the AI will materialize into a fully realized image.
There is an example YouTube Here, the creator wants to draw a green alien head, so he starts with a green blob and some black eyes. The AI doesn’t understand what it’s driving towards, so when you tell it in text that you want to create a “green alien”, LiveCanvas is prompted to create a very smart and detailed alien head. Masu.
In other words, it’s sketch-based and AI image generation supplemented with text prompts from the user as needed.
Could this be a feature included in Paint? Of course, the app already has image generation capabilities thanks to Cocreator (powered by Dall-E), but this is more detailed than just a text prompt. It will be a system.
Although it seems like a pretty advanced feature for a basic Windows 11 app, I’m not actually sure if the LiveCanvas feature mentioned by PhantomOfEarth is related to Leonardo.Ai’s tool. (Although that doesn’t seem like an unfair bet).
All these leaks about potential new AI features may end up leading to nothing happening, but they could bring some pretty nifty features to Paint, which are currently hitting CPUs all over the place. It will be powered by the onboard NPU.
