NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Monelle’s at the Manor will officially close after business on Sunday.
On Saturday and Sunday, the restaurant held a yard sale where customers had a chance to eat one last meal in the mansion and go on a treasure hunt. Monelle’s at the Manor will serve country breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Sunday meals from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. during regular business hours.
The restaurant announced it will close its location near the airport as its contract with the Nashville Metro Airport Authority ends.
After Monell’s in Murfreesboro Pike Manor closes, fans of the restaurant can still enjoy Monell’s at its original location in Germantown (1235 Sixth Ave. N).
Monell’s at the Manor is rich in Nashville history. Originally the Colemire mansion, the restaurant was built in 1898 by Colonel E.W. Cole, a former Confederate officer under General Robert E. Lee.
Col. “King” Cole worked with architect Col. WC Smith, who also designed the Parthenon in Nashville, to build the Coalmere House.
The mansion became known for its “distinguished” guests and “lavish” social events. According to Monell’s website, more than five U.S. presidents have visited the mansion.
In 1929, the original house burned down and Colonel Cole’s youngest daughter built a new mansion.
In 1940, the mansion was acquired by the City of Nashville and leased for private use as the Coalmare Club.
In 1977, the Coalmere Club was transformed into a seafood buffet. Then in 2011, Monell’s founder and owner Michael King rented an old house and established Monell’s at the Manor.
