Finally, the goal line. Oscar voting is over, most of the season’s precursor awards have been awarded, and the last Best Picture nominee to hit digital platforms has finally arrived. This movie is the most unusual of them all, and there are multiple ways to see it before Oscar night, including in some theaters where it’s still showing.

“Menus-Plaisir — Les Troisgros”: One of the best movies of 2023. Frederick Wisemanis a four-hour documentary about a prestigious restaurant in the countryside of France’s Loire region. Wiseman, who won an honorary Oscar in 2016, documents the inner workings of the facility with a mesmerizing eye for detail. Think “The Bear” without the screams, or “Jiro Dreams of Sushi” without the undercurrent of inspiration. The film was not included in the Oscar documentary shortlist, which was a huge oversight. It’s lucky that, Now streaming on PBS.

“Monster”: Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda This complex drama about a single mother follows on from 2019 Best International Feature Film nominations for Shoplifters and The Broker (Sakura Ando) She has a preteen son (Souya Kurokawa) I came home from school with an injury. After winning the Queer Palm Award at the Cannes Film Festival last year, “Monster” received rave reviews and picked up several critics’ awards. It is available for viewing on VOD.

“lisa frankenstein“: If “Poor Things” isn’t enough to scratch your “Frankenstein” itch, check out this comedy starring Kathryn Newton As a troubled ’80s teenager who brings a Victorian man back to life. It was written by Diablo Cody and supervised zelda williams, Robin’s daughter. Available for rent or purchase on VOD.
