Being a busy college student is something I always dreamed of. This sounds like a joke, but it’s really not.
When I was in junior high school, I bought my first notebook. I like having a place to write down assignments to remind me of deadlines. Being able to see deadlines all at once gave me peace of mind and made me feel like a “big kid.”
I had never used Google Calendar or Google Sheets until I went to college. But at the beginning of the 2020 pandemic, I dabbled in it, trying to give myself the impression that I had something to fall back on.
When I started college, I realized how many people use Google Calendar to manage their lives.
At the beginning of this semester, I made a promise to myself that I would continue to use Google Calendar to manage events and classes. I can finally say that I was able to use Google Calendar to get me through (most of) the semester.
What I love about Google Calendar is that you can color code your schedule. As someone like me who’s always on the go and running to the next club, it’s great to be able to quickly look at the schedule and see where I’m going based on color.
The downside of using a physical planner all the time is that you can physically finish tasks. We highly recommend using Google Sheets to plan your assignments.
With Google Sheets, you no longer have to worry about what is due and when. I love being busy, but I need a way to know what I have to do before each class.
At the beginning of each semester, I add all the assignments in my syllabus to a Google Sheet. This is overwhelming but calming because you know exactly what is going to happen to you.
Spreadsheets are the best way to solve this because you don’t want to worry about whether you have all your assignments.
Google Sheets allows you to be held accountable if you don’t finish reading. When I see that I haven’t deleted the cell that the reading was assigned to, I feel like I need to go back and read it and properly delete it from the list.
I love using Google Calendar whenever I need to plan a gathering. It’s very convenient and allows you to always know what commitments you have made.
It’s definitely satisfying for me to have fulfilled the college student’s dream of always having something going on. It means I’m busy and doing what I love.
I didn’t learn this until I came to college, but you don’t need to put the same amount of effort into every group. You also don’t have to join clubs that don’t interest you, especially clubs like Time Thieves.
Her campus is a perfect example. I attend her one meeting a week and she only has to write one article a week. I love being able to participate in this activity without feeling guilty about giving my time.
I love using Google Calendar and Sheets to keep myself organized. As a high school student, I never expected this to happen, but I really think I’m becoming more of a digitally active girl than a physical planner enthusiast.
