It’s been a good week for Shane Gillis. Just days after she hosted her first time on “Saturday Night Live,” Netflix expanded its partnership with the comedian.
The streaming giant has acquired the six-episode scripted comedy “Tire” from comedian co-creator Gillis. Gillis stars in the series and also serves as executive producer and writer. The series will be available on his streamer starting May 23rd.
This self-financed comedy follows Will (Steven Gerven), a nervous and unqualified heir to an auto repair chain, as he tries to turn his father’s business around. But his good intentions are always thwarted by his cousin and employee Shane (Gillis).
Gillis, Garven, and John McKeever serve as series creators, writers, and executive producers, with McKeever also serving as comedy director. Brandon James will executive produce the Rough House series alongside Brian Stern and Kenneth Slotnick of AGI Entertainment Media & Management. Becky Astofan will also serve as executive producer.
Gillis’ previous television appearances include two episodes of Pete Davidson’s Peacock comedy “Bapkiss.”
Netflix is also developing another stand-up special by Gillis. His 2023 special “Beautiful Dogs” spent two weeks on the top 10 list in the United States and was on top 10 lists in a total of five countries. Both “Tire” and “Beautiful Dogs” were produced by Gillis and McKeever’s production company, Dad Sick Productions.
This isn’t the end of Gillis’ partnership with Netflix. The stand-up will also perform two live shows at the 2024 comedy festival Netflix Is a Joke. Set in Los Angeles, Gillis will perform at the Greek Theater on May 4th and at the Kia Forum on May 8th. Other artists scheduled to perform at the event include Tom Segura, Ali Wong, Arsenio Hall, drag queen Bob, and Cedric. The festival’s extensive lineup includes entertainers Chelsea Handler, Chris Rock, David Letterman, Hannah Gadsby, Jerry Seinfeld, John Mulaney, Jon Stewart, Jim Gaffigan, and Sarah Silverman. , Trevor Noah, Kevin Hart, and more.
