TheWrap reported that Netflix has released the TV series “Calabasas.” The series is executive produced by kim kardashian and her ‘American Horror Story’ co-star Emma Roberts, based on Via Bleidner’s book ‘If I Lived Here, I’d Be Famous By Now’ The story is set in a Southern California town.
Two major offers were on the table when Netflix closed the deal on Friday, according to people familiar with the matter. This book tells the story of 16-year-old Via, a Catholic girl whose life changes when her family moves from the Midwest to Calabasas, California.
The series will also be produced by the creator of “Pretty Little Liars.” I. Marlene King And Alexandra Milchan. King’s partner Lauren Wagner will also produce via Long Lake Media, as well as Roberts, Carla Price and Matt Matorsky’s Belletrist Productions.
Kardashian and her famous family are known for putting Calabasas on the map with their reality series. The series is also the fourth project the reality star turned actress/entrepreneur/producer has worked on since the end of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Among them, Netflix plans to produce a series called “The Fifth Wheel,” in which Kardashian is scheduled to star.
Roberts and Kardashian most recently co-starred on FX’s “American Horror Story: Delicate.”
Breidner told the Santa Barbara Independent that she started pitching the book when she was 18 years old, and the entire process took two years. She says of the book: “This is a collection of stories about growing up in the San Fernando Valley. More specifically, it’s a story about what I saw at Calabasas High School. Calabasas High School is a collection of stories about growing up in the San Fernando Valley.” It’s a public school that sits right at the intersection of mundane suburban boredom. And the thread that ties it all together is the internet, and how it “raised” Gen Z. ”
