At least seven major streaming services are more expensive in the U.S. than they were last year.
Hulu and Amazon’s ad-free standard streaming service plans currently cost $18 per month. It may not sound like much, but subscribers across multiple platforms are now easily paying more than $100 per month. New data from Bank of America (pdf) Americans are spending 70% more on streaming services compared to 2021. Additionally, the percentage of households spending more than $101 per month on streaming services has more than doubled since 2021, the report said.
Bank of America said middle-aged Americans are leading this trend.
“Millennials and Gen X pay for multiple streaming subscriptions, resulting in higher streaming costs per household,” the report states. “These cohorts have seen the largest increases in streaming share over the past three years.”
But even though more Americans are spending more money on streaming, not all platforms are succeeding.meanwhile Netflix achieved solid growth in subscriber base Last year, after a crackdown on password sharing and price hikes, Decrease in membership numbers for Hulu and Disney+.
