Apple will release iOS 17.4 early next month, bringing with it a number of changes. We have previously stated that the company considers it appropriate to make the platform publicly available before March 6 in order to comply with EU regulations under the Digital Markets Act. Ahead of the official release, Netflix is changing its payment system and persuading users to switch to a new payment method if they want to keep their accounts active.
Netflix wants users to pay for streaming service through its website instead of the App Store
Netflix is steering users away from Apple’s App Store billing system. In 2018, the company restricted users from subscribing to streaming services through the App Store, but did not block users who were already subscribed to the service. The user subscribed to the service using her Apple in-app purchases. Netflix encouraged users to pay for the service outside of the App Store, but some users continued with their daily lives.
Netflix has a reason for not wanting users to pay for the service through the App Store. The company is currently cracking down on password sharing, resulting in slower subscriber growth. The company wants to maximize its profit margins, and with that in mind, it doesn’t want to pay Apple 15 percent of the total cost of the subscription.
According to information shared by 9to5 mac, Netflix’s US support website states that in some countries users may need to add another payment method. This will force users to switch from the App Store to their own payment method.
Apple billing members in some countries may be asked to add a new payment method to continue their subscription.
The company has not disclosed the list of countries, but the United States may also be included. Netflix also wouldn’t say how many subscribers are still using Apple’s billing method. However, once the transition is complete, Netflix will no longer pay a portion of its license fees to Apple, which could increase its revenue. If you are interested in switching to Netflix’s payment method, please visit the company’s website.
If you wish to continue using the Service, you must subscribe to the Streaming Service through the Website. If you do not, the Company may suspend your account. However, the company has not disclosed the deadline for cancellation. Stay tuned as we will be sharing more details on this topic.
