Netflix tells customers that Netflix subscribers who still pay their monthly fee through the App Store’s in-app purchase system will soon need to add a new payment method to keep their accounts active.
Netflix stopped allowing customers to subscribe to its streaming service on iOS devices in 2018, but allows customers who are already subscribed that way to continue paying using in-app purchases. However, Netflix does not want to continue paying Apple 15 percent of these subscription fees, so payments through Apple’s platform will be suspended.
as pointed out by 9to5 mac, the US Netflix support site now states that customers in “some” countries will need to add a new payment method. It’s not clear which countries Netflix’s new policy applies to, but given that it was added to the US site, it may apply to US customers.
Apple billing members in some countries may be asked to add a new payment method to continue their subscription.
There’s no word on how many Netflix subscribers are still paying through in-app purchases, as it’s been nearly six years since Netflix removed this option. Since 2018, Netflix has required customers who own Apple devices to sign up for a new Netflix subscription on the Netflix website. There is no option to subscribe from the Netflix app on your iPhone or iPad, and these devices will open a sign-in screen.
When Netflix first removed the option to pay through the App Store, it said customers who paid for their subscriptions with in-app purchases could continue using that billing method until their account was canceled, but Netflix said It seems my patience has reached its limit.
