It was announced on Tuesday that Netflix UK, the Writers Guild of Great Britain (WGGB) and the Personal Managers Association (PMA), which represents UK agencies, have signed the deal. This includes “rewards applicable to UK writers of live-action scripted commissioned series for Netflix”.
They said the deal will take effect from February 1, 2024 and is “the first agreement between a streaming service, WGGB and PMA.”
Anne Mensah, vice president of UK content at Netflix, said: “Local authors are at the heart of Netflix’s success in the UK and we are delighted to have reached an agreement.”
WGGB general secretary Ellie Pearce added: “For the first time in the UK, writers working for a global streamer will have their rights enshrined in a trade union agreement and will enjoy improved conditions.” We are pleased to have reached this agreement with Netflix. ”
The PMA said: “We are thrilled to have finally agreed a pioneering agreement on terms for UK writers, moving away from perpetual rights grants and introducing ongoing payment mechanisms. “I am doing so,” he said.
The Writers Guild also posted a summary of the key terms of the Netflix agreement on Tuesday in the “Fees and Agreements” section of its website, adding: of our website. ”
Details include a minimum script fee of £17,000 ($21,700) for a one-off 60-minute program and £15,000 ($19,200) for a series. The initial script fee includes Netflix’s rights to use his work worldwide for six months, as well as non-theatrical publicity rights.
