Ben Revzin, co-creator of the Cheerful app, said, “I wanted to create this app because I'm really bad at giving gifts.”
SAN DIEGO — We all know that shopping during the holidays can be difficult for some people. A North Park man hopes an app called Cheerful will make gift-giving less stressful.
“I wanted to create this app because I'm really bad at giving presents,” said Ben Revzin, one of the app's co-creators. “I used to write funny cards and give them to friends along with gift cards, like, 'It's your birthday! Let's be like turtles and shellfish!'”
Revzin, a self-described “technologist,” said he started using AI technology to buy gifts and realized why not create an app for people who are less tech-savvy.
“When you search for gift ideas on Google, the content should already be created,” Revzin says.
“With AI, you can put anything you want in there and it basically creates a gift guide for you in real time,” he said. “You can find gifts for people who like different things. If someone loves the beach and basketball, loves cars, loves looking at pictures of puppies, you can find a great gift guide in seconds. You can get it.”
You don't need to sign up for anything to use Cheerful, just download the app. Enter the person you're shopping for, select their age, gender, interests, and budget.
This app displays 12 gift ideas with direct links to gifts on Amazon. Cheerful doesn't charge you anything. When you purchase a gift through the app, Amazon pays you.
You can be as specific as you like about what the other person likes.
”[You can type in] “You can write full sentences as well as paragraphs about things you're interested in,” Revzin says, adding, “The more input you put into the app, the better the output.” I am.
“I think this technology is important because it allows people to get things done faster and with less stress and headaches,” he added. “Whereas before it might have taken days to think of a good gift, now it takes seconds.”
