Nvidia on Sunday (June 23) signed a deal with Qatari telecommunications group Ooredoo to deploy its artificial intelligence technology in data centers it owns across five Middle Eastern countries.
According to ReutersIt will be Nvidia’s first major launch in a region where the United States has restricted the export of advanced chips to prevent Chinese companies from accessing the latest AI technology through Middle Eastern countries.
But Ooredoo will be the first in the region to offer customers direct access to Nvidia’s AI and graphics processing technology in data centres across Qatar, Algeria, Tunisia, Oman, Kuwait and the Maldives.
This will strengthen Ooredoo’s ability to support customers in the deployment of generative AI applications.
Meanwhile, Ooredoo CEO Aziz Alsman Fakhroo said in a statement that “our B2B customers will have access to services that may not be available to our competitors for the next 18 to 24 months.”
However, financial terms of the deal, which was signed at the TM Forum in Copenhagen on June 19, were not disclosed.
The specific Nvidia technology installed will depend on availability and customer demand.
