Completely free, unconditional trial of Nvidia’s cloud gaming service GeForce Now will see a slight reduction in contract value — Nvidia says Wednesday, February 28 The VergeUsers will start seeing ads.
These are free tier only, not Priority or Ultimate, but that doesn’t seem to disrupt gameplay. “Free users will begin seeing up to two minutes of ads while waiting in line to start a gaming session,” she wrote Nvidia spokesperson Stephanie Ngo.
Currently, the free tier often requires you to wait in line for a remote computer to become available before your hour of free gameplay. I think you’ll see some ads in the future. Nvidia says the ads should help pay for the free tier of the service, and that it expects the change to “reduce average wait times for free users over time.”
My issue with GeForce Now’s free tier isn’t its queue by any means, it’s that it’s the least impressive version of the company’s service and doesn’t show off the true power of cloud gaming. For that, you need to try GeForce Now Ultimate for yourself. This gives him the power of his RTX 4080 in the cloud with significantly lower latency and support for G-Sync monitors. However, it still costs $20 per month and there is no free trial.
The company plans to send an email tomorrow, February 27th, to all free tier users informing them about the ad.
