WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Olivia Dalton, the White House chief of press secretary and a longtime aide to President Joe Biden, is leaving to take a senior position in Apple’s (AAPL.O) communications division. Two people familiar with the matter said that they had told senior staff that this was the case. Reuters on Monday.
Dalton is scheduled to leave the White House in mid-March, officials said. She has been the White House deputy press secretary since August 2022, and she reports directly to Karine Jean-Pierre.
Last week, Mr. Dalton informed Mr. Biden’s senior staff of his plans to leave for a job on Apple’s communications team, the people said on condition of anonymity.
Mr. Dalton has worked on a wide range of domestic and foreign affairs issues for Mr. Biden since 2006, when he was then-Senator Biden’s deputy press secretary.
She spent much of President Barack Obama’s first term as press secretary for the Department of Transportation, and served as first lady Michelle Obama’s press secretary during her 2012 re-election campaign.
Mr. Dalton joined the current administration in January 2021 as spokesperson for the United States Mission to the United Nations. She also served as a senior advisor to the National Security Council during efforts to resettle Afghan refugees across the United States.
Joel Gamble, one of US President Joe Biden’s economic policy makers, will also leave the White House, Reuters reported on Monday.
