ATLANTA — Said the owner of a popular Jamaican restaurant. channel 2 action news they are going to rebuild after that Southwest Atlanta business catches fire Saturday morning.
“I saw an actual fire burning right down the street over there,” Elkabrel Lee said. channel 2 elizabeth rollins.
The restaurant’s chef said the fire started in a smokehouse just before noon. The fire broke out while they were roasting the day’s food and got out of control.
By the time firefighters extinguished the fire, the restaurant was in ruins.

“I was actually on the grill in that area when the fire started,” said Jay John of Dat Fire Jerk Chicken. “And my first priority was to make sure everyone was safe.”
The owner remained on-site throughout the day to console and console the restaurant’s patrons who were craving the iconic Jamaican food until the restaurant was able to reopen.
“We will rebuild and build back better,” John said. “We love you guys, thank you.”
