Santa Rosa Zoning Commission scraps bold sports complex plan for remote Allentown
Kevin Costner’s “Field of Dreams” character never had to deal with the county’s zoning commission.
Allentown resident Jana Williamson saw her “if I build it, the kids will come” concept shot down by the Santa Rosa County Zoning Commission on Thursday. Committee members wanted more than the inaccurate plans for the sports complex that were presented.
Board member Alan Isaacson said: “The conceptual plans that have been shown to us are just squiggly lines and we’re very concerned.” That’s not what I think.” All she’s saying is that she doesn’t have a well-thought-out plan in front of her. ”
Williamson, who said he was born and raised in the rural farming community of Allentown, went before the board seeking approval to use 24 acres of farmland off State Route 89 as a park.
