As weight loss treatments soar in popularity, surgeons believe a side effect known in Hollywood as the “Ozempic face” is on the rise.
Celebrities ranging from John Goodman to Sharon Osbourne are among those hardest hit by the condition, several doctors claimed to the Daily Mail.
For the uninitiated, side effects of taking Ozempic include sunken eyes, thinning cheeks, and sagging skin, often making the user look older and more deflated.
“The Ozempic face is essentially the same features seen when patients lose weight rapidly or regularly,” New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Smita Ramanadam told the Daily Mail.
“Signs of loss of facial volume and loss of facial fat include more sunken cheeks, sagging skin, and an overall hollowing out of the facial features.”
This injectable treatment mimics natural hormones that tell the brain that you’re full, thereby suppressing your appetite and causing rapid weight loss.
Ozempic’s fat-fighting abilities are no wonder why it’s all the rage in body-obsessed Hollywood, which experts say is responsible for the aforementioned rise in “deflation.”
After examining photos of 15 celebrities who had experienced significant weight loss, a panel of surgeons estimated that at least half of them may be suffering from this facial deterioration.
Surgeons analyzed the case of actor John Goodman, 71, who lost nearly 200 pounds since 2007, almost half of his heaviest weight.
Goodman denies taking Ozempic, and the “Roseanne” actor credits his weight-loss pilgrimage to diet, exercise and abstinence from alcohol.
“You can see that his face is more wrinkled, wrinkled and deflated compared to when he lost weight and his face was fuller,” Ramanadham asserted of Goodman.
“These changes are very typical of overall weight loss, regardless of whether weight loss drugs were used.”
Also on the list is singer Robbie Williams, 50, who admitted in the fall that he was taking “something like Ozempic” without specifying the treatment.
Ramanadham believed this was evident in her appearance, explaining: With Robbie, you can see the direct results of your weight loss. ”
Surgeons say the “Ozempik face” is less pronounced in women because women traditionally hide their scars with fillers and makeup.
But they cited Sharon Osbourne, who reportedly lost 42 pounds with the drug, as the most “dramatic” example of the condition.
“Her eyes look more sunken and her cheeks look more sunken,” Ramanadham claimed.
“Facial volume has also decreased significantly, and wrinkles have increased accordingly.”
Other patients known to have tinsel frowns include Jessica Simpson, Scott Disick, and Liam Payne, but surgeons say the latter’s streamlined features are due to buccal fat surgery, which removes fat pads in the cheeks. It is said that it is the fault of
Ozempic facial symptoms are one of many side effects associated with the drug, of which 9 million prescriptions were written in the last three months of 2022, the Daily Mail reported.
The treatment has been accused of not only causing people to lose their faces, but also causing vision problems, constipation, and even personality changes.
Meanwhile, in January, several Ozempic followers claimed they had gained back more weight than they had lost after stopping taking the drug.
