hollywood, florida – Police announced the arrest of a “bank robbery” suspect in Hollywood on Wednesday.
On March 26, Hollywood Police Department officers announced they were conducting surveillance on the city’s west side, specifically targeting bank-jagging activity.
According to Broward Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Veda Coleman-Wright, “Bank jugging is when a suspect targets bank customers and steals money. Believing the customer had left with the money, the suspects followed the customer to the next location. Detectives said the suspects then either took the money by force or used physical force. He allegedly robbed a car and obtained the cash left behind.
Officials said officers were conducting surveillance in the area when they noticed a white vehicle occupied for an extended period of time in the bank’s parking lot. The vehicle’s occupants appeared to be closely monitoring the movements of bank customers in and out of the premises.
Police then announced that responding officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle that left the bank for several criminal and traffic violations.
The driver, identified by police as Kendrick Jones, was arrested and taken into custody.
An inventory search of the vehicle revealed multiple items consistent with the bank-jagging activity, including a black ski mask, gloves, and a window punch.
Hollywood police detectives said they are actively conducting sting operations and surveillance near banks in the city.
Detectives recently announced they had identified another vehicle suspected of being involved in the crime.
Police say the vehicle, a dark gray 2016-2020 Mercedes GLA 200, evaded officers as they attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
Jones’ charges have not yet been released by authorities, and his bail information remains unknown at this time.
