After a year filled with iconic movies like “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” and hit TV shows like “Abbott Elementary,” “The Bear,” and “The Last of Us,” 2024 There are some big events happening. fill in. That being said, there are quite a few movies and shows coming out this summer that will hopefully live up to these expectations.
Here’s a list of the movies and TV shows to watch this summer.

“The Fall Guy” (May 3)
Ryan Gosling’s career has been in the headlines for years, but he made a comeback in 2023 with his role as Ken in Barbie. His next highly anticipated film will be released in early May this summer.
“The Fall Guy” follows Colt Sievers, a stuntman played by Gosling, who comes out of retirement to work on a film directed by his ex-girlfriend Jodi Moreno, played by Emily Blunt. Production on the film and Sievers and Moreno’s rekindled romance is interrupted when star Tom Ryder, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, goes missing. Sievers is given the task of tracking down Ryder, and while searching for him, he becomes involved in many huge and dangerous crimes. The film, a far cry from “Barbie,” propelled Gosling into fast-paced, action-packed roles.
“Back to Black” (May 10)
Back to Black is a biographical film about the life of acclaimed singer Amy Winehouse. The film follows Winehouse, played by Marisa Abella, from the beginning of her career, her rise to fame, and her relationship with her boyfriend and eventual husband, Blake Fielder-Cybil, played by Jack O’Connell. I’m drawing.
Winehouse’s life and career has included many tragedies as well as successes, but critics say the film, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, oversimplifies her story. These comments seem to cast a cloud over the release of the film, but ultimately it will be up to the viewers to decide whether it is worth watching.
“Inside Head 2” (June 14)
The emotions inside young Riley’s head first appeared on screen nine years ago when the original film Inside Head was released. This summer brings back joy, sadness, fear, anger, and disgust. As Riley enters his teens, he is joined by four more voices. Emotions of anxiety, embarrassment, boredom, and envy emerge, pushing aside the original emotions, which must be returned to through the inner workings of Riley’s mind. Viewers will relate to this wholesome and humorous depiction of teenage struggles through the eyes of the emotions that guide them.
“Types of Kindness” (June 21st)
Kinds of Kindness is the work of Yorgos Lanthimos, the same director who created the Oscar-winning film Poor Things. In an interview with the Guardian, Lanthimos said “Kind of Kindness” is a contemporary film that follows three different stories set in the United States. Emma Stone, who co-starred with Lanthimos in Poor Things, will appear in the film along with William Dafoe, Jesse Plemons and Margaret Qualley.
“A Quiet Place Day 1” (June 28)
This horror film is a spin-off that takes place in the same universe as the first two A Quiet Place films. Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn and Alex Wolff all star in the first part, which tells the story of the first day a monster unleashed its fury on New York City, attacking all sources. Actor/director John Krasinski, who directed the first two films in the series, will not return to direct. However, he was involved in the production with the film’s director, Michael Sarnoski.
“Despicable Me 4” (July 3)
The Despicable Me series seems to be on the rise. So far, he has three movies following Gru and his two Minions spin-offs. Throughout its release, Gru and the Minions has been popular with many age groups for its action-packed fun and generous humor.
In the next film, Gru, voiced as usual by Steve Carell, reconciles with his wife Lucy, voiced by Kristen Wiig. They welcome new additions to their family with three adopted daughters, including Maxime Le Mal, voiced by Will Ferrell, and his partner Valentina, voiced by Sofia Vergara. We will follow their adventures as they battle new villains. With new characters, villains, and plotlines, this fourth film of his is sure to be both fun and nostalgic.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” (July 26)
Marvel’s long-awaited film will feature popular characters Deadpool and Wolverine co-starring on screen. Much of the film is being kept under wraps, but the trailer shows Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool being captured by a group and then escaping from there. The trailer ends with Deadpool lying on his back with Hugh Grant’s Wolverine standing over him. Viewers can certainly expect the laugh-out-loud humor and fourth-wall breaking consistent with Reynolds’ character, as well as the brutal, exhilarating action that comes with Marvel’s superhero movies.

“Bridgerton” – Season 3 (May 16 and June 13)
The period drama that has taken Netflix by storm over the past few years is back with a third season split into two parts. The first part will be released on May 16th, and the second on June 13th. This season will feature Bridgerton’s younger brother Colin, played by Luke Newton, and Lady Whistledown’s own Penelope Featherington, played by Nicola Coughlan. Fans are looking forward to a heart-breaking romance and the resolution of many questions left unanswered at the end of season two.
House of the Dragon – Season 2 (June 16)
The highly anticipated Game of Thrones sequel series will return for Season 2 this summer. After waiting almost a year and a half due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, fans are dying to know what happens next.
A civil war ensues between the “Green” and “Black” councils, the events of which have already been depicted in separate trailers released by HBO Max for each team. The new season is sure to be visually stunning, emotionally eventful, and full of drama and thrills.
“The Umbrella Academy” – Season 4 (August 8)
The Umbrella Family returns to Netflix this summer with its fourth and final season. At the end of the third season, the show’s heroes realized they no longer had powers, leaving viewers on a cliffhanger. They will have to face new villains through a plot that will definitely have twists and turns and will leave fans on the edge of their seats. As the story of “The Umbrella Academy” comes to an end, it is hoped that this exciting and fantastical family drama will come to a satisfying conclusion.
