Many movies and shows are still not available on Netflix’s ad-supported plans, even though the plan debuted over a year ago.
Customers have discovered that the popular 2023 horror film “THANKSGIVING” is not available for streaming on Netflix plans with ads. According to Variety, this is “due to licensing restrictions.”
Netflix hasn’t commented on specific titles not being available for subscribers who opt into commercials, but the company’s website says all unavailable content is “due to licensing restrictions.” These titles will appear with a lock icon when you search or browse Netflix. ”
In addition to THANKSGIVING, other Sony movies such as SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE, NO HARD FEELINGS, MORBIUS, 13 GOING ON 30, and WHIPLASH are not available.
Shows that aren’t available to stream include “The Walking Dead,” “Peaky Blinders,” and “House of Cards.”
Greg Peters, Netflix’s chief operating officer, commented to Variety about the absence of certain titles:[A] There is a limited number of movies and TV shows that are unavailable due to licensing restrictions, and we will work to reduce that number over time. ”
Peters also said that in some countries, 5% to 10% of titles will no longer be available on Netflix, and subscribers on advertising plans will not be able to download movies and shows to watch offline.

Netflix plans to launch an ad-supported subscription option with Microsoft in early 2023 to reach a broader customer base.

The announcement comes after a significant decline in subscribers over the past two quarters. In the second quarter, Netflix lost nearly 1 million subscribers.
Although this was only half of the expected loss, CEO Reed Hastings said: explain “Our excitement subsided because it wasn’t that bad.”
Sarandos explains: As you know now, Netflix does not add any ads. We will add advertising space for people who want to see ads at a cheaper price. ”
