Friday night while participating in a conversation about the latest season at PaleyFest. the morning showReese Witherspoon got honest about her concerns about the state and future of Hollywood.
When asked by host Carla Swisher about this particular time in technology and media, about six months after the end of the actors’ strike, Witherspoon said: the morning show She became one of the top producers in the industry through her Hello Sunshine banner. She told the audience at the Dolby Her Theater in Hollywood that the streaming landscape has changed in recent months.
“Streaming was like the biggest boom in the last three or four years. There was endless blockbuster content, and literally anything could sell,” Starr said. “What I’m looking at now, from the buy/sell situation side of things, is that perhaps part of the strike was an opportunity for studios that weren’t making money, streaming services, to reset and resize. I mean, we’re going to start over and cut costs. So we’re probably going to see less, which is probably a good thing, right? It was just chaos. It was a flea market. Even if we slowed down a little bit. Fine. But there’s more intent to it, and it’s going to be a little harder.”
Witherspoon said she was wondering and worried about what the future holds for artists, pointing to co-star Jennifer Aniston next to her and asking, “Will a career like ours ever be possible again?” Is there really a chance to become a star?If you don’t have data transparency, how do you know? How do you know if something worked or didn’t work?’ big little lies The star said Netflix has been “pretty transparent about it” and has revealed some numbers, but “not others.” It’s tough as an actor, but how do you negotiate? What do producers do? How do you market it? How do you assess the value of something if you don’t know where you sit in the landscape?”
“There’s also a real amount of data. They’re locking it down,” she added. “They don’t want you to have an advantage. That’s difficult.”
Aniston shared her thoughts on working in Hollywood today, saying: [you would] All you have to do is attend multiple auditions and hope that you pass. And if you get this week’s movie and hope that that little guest star makes it breakthrough. When it was so simple, and now it’s becoming so… sometimes it’s too much. ”
Witherspoon was also asked about her thoughts on AI and its risks to Hollywood, to which she replied: I don’t think AI is coming to do your job. Someone who knows how to use AI is coming to your job. So, let’s learn about it. It should be a tool for us to build our own creativity, our own humanity, and our own ethics. It’s a whole conversation. For women and people of color and people who are sometimes surrounded by others in the developmental space, you really need to be there… Don’t be afraid to jump in. ”
Along with Witherspoon and Aniston, co-stars Mark Duplass, Karen Pittman, Nicole Beharie, Tig Notaro, Nestor Carbonell, showrunner Charlotte Stout, and executive producers Michael Ellenberg and Mimi Rader also co-star. Participated in the panel discussion. Aside from big-picture conversations about the entertainment industry, the group also discussed key moments in season 3, including the Jan. 6 storyline and Jon Hamm’s role, which Swisher called “basically Elon Musk.” was also discussed.
“Let’s not talk about Elon Musk. One side of me has come out and I feel like I’m being swept away,” he said, leaning into the topic.
“We blew everything up last year,” Stout said, adding that the writers are currently working on Season 4, which is expected to be filmed later this year. “I think it’s safe to say that this show will end after the election. I don’t think we’ve revealed anything. It’s a very interesting thing, and we’re writing it now, before the election, and it’s going to come out after the election.” added Stout. “This has to go sideways. Frankly, I think it’s like, ‘Oh, I saw it on CNN.'” Reeder said, “I think it was last season, but what’s the truth? ‘ he objected. Maybe this season is about who to trust. ”
