SenseTime founder and renowned AI scientist Tang Xiaowu, who passed away in December, has been “resurrected” in the form of a digital avatar using the latest generative AI technology.
Created by AI technology, Tang recently spoke at SenseTime’s annual event. He talked about this past year of his, set some future visions, and had a drink of water once.
According to SenseTime, the video was published on SenseTime’s WeChat account and features Tang’s reminiscences as a scientist, leader, and business elite in the AI industry.
It is powered by SenseAvatar, an AI digital human video generation platform with features such as professional algorithms, language macro models, and AI text generation diagrams. Digital avatar videos can be generated using a “smartphone and at least 5 minutes of video content.”
This is not the only case in which AI has been used to bring a deceased person back to life.
Renowned Taiwanese musician Bao Xiaobai revealed in a recent interview that he used AI to “bring back to life” his daughter, who died at the age of 22 due to a rare blood disease.
Tang, who was also director of the Pujiang Research Institute, director of the Shanghai Institute of Artificial Intelligence, and professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, passed away at the age of 55 due to health problems on December 15 last year.
Mr. Tan helped establish a city-level AI research institute in Shanghai and has frequently spoken at the opening sessions of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in recent years.
