It’s always nice to see a box office smashing theatrical release finally make it to a streamer, and this week it’s the money-making monster fighting game. Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire Debuted with Max.
Meanwhile, Eddie Murphy Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. On Netflix, astronaut It’s available to stream on Prime Video, and it’s also Shark Week 2024, so if you’ve already exhausted the best shark-themed monster movies, there are still plenty of shark-related documentaries to enjoy on Hulu and Disney Plus.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (Max)

Sometimes the movie is just too silly. the work. Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire (currently streaming on Max) is one such film.
Equally absurd Godzilla vs. Kong The film sees the titular monsters team up to defeat a giant threat that lurks deep beneath the earth’s surface, with Rebecca Hall, Kaylee Hottle and Brian Tyree Henry reprising their roles from the first film, as well as Godzilla and Kong.
Please do not expect Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire It’s not going to rewrite the action movie rulebook, but if you’re looking for something to help switch your mind off this weekend, this is certainly one of Max’s best films – although UK audiences will have to wait a little longer for it to hit the streamer.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (Netflix)

Donning his blue badge and pistol 30 years ago, Eddie Murphy reprises his role as famed Beverly Hills cop Axel Foley in a film worthy of the name. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. On Netflix.
In this sequel/reboot, Foley is drawn back into the fight when the lives of his daughter Jane (Taylor Paige) and his old partner Billy (Judge Reinhold) are threatened, leading Foley to team up with Jane and her ex-boyfriend, Detective Bobby Abbott (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), to uncover a dangerous conspiracy (surprise!).
Critics Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. It’s been described as “formulaic” but “still entertaining,” so while it may not be the best of Netflix’s films, it looks like it’s worth a watch for fans of the existing series.

To continue this week’s theme of pensive, slow-burning indie films (not really…) astronaut On Prime Video.
In this made-for-streaming film, Emma Roberts plays a Florida party girl who uses a fake resume to get into NASA’s astronaut training program. Legally Blonde meet First Man). Not surprisingly, she’s doing just as well as you’d expect.
Also starring Tom Hopper, Poppy Liu and Gabrielle Union astronautCritics have called it “lazy streaming trash” (ouch!), but it might still be nice to have playing in the background.

The Imaginary (Netflix)

Studio Ghibli fans, listen up: Spirited Away The latest work by animator Yoshiyuki Momose, Imaginationis currently streaming on Netflix.
Based on the famous children’s novel of the same name by A.F. Harold, the new Netflix film revolves around an imaginary boy, Rudger (Terada Kokoro), who discovers that if the girl who created him, Amanda (Suzuki Rio), forgets him, he too will disappear.
Critics Imagination It’s been described as “a moving and engrossing testament to the joy of dreaming” and is likely to be one of Netflix’s best films of the year.
