Eating an apple a day can save you a trip to the doctor, but it could potentially lower your medical costs at this time.
A Boston-based influencer sparked outrage over inflation after claiming she paid $7 for an apple at Whole Foods.
The woman, who goes by the username @via..li, posted a video on her page about her expensive purchases. since it was reshared on various social media platforms.
The clip, which has now been deleted from the shopper’s account, showed the shopper removing an apple from a bag after leaving an unidentified Whole Foods store.
“I literally just went grocery shopping at Whole Foods and look at this,” she raged. “Think about how much this costs. It’s an apple, it’s called a Sugarbee apple, look at it.”
“Palm-sized. I think it was about two or three dollars. I scanned this mother, I scanned her — 7 king dollars, 7!”
The Whole Foods website lists organic Sugarbee apples at $3.99 per pound in most Boston zip codes, but prices may vary by retailer.
The Post has contacted the company for comment.
In the video, the TikTokker claimed the apple cost $7, and also said he checked the price with the store clerk.
“What kind of economy do we live in when it costs $7 to buy an apple?” she asked. “I could have sworn that the other apples I bought weren’t $7. $7 for a latte, that’s crazy, right? Okay, this apple has got to be really good.”
Many viewers were furious at the prices paid for the produce. write: “It’s even crazier to think that for some people in the United States, this equates to almost a full hour of work. Imagine working a full hour in exchange for an apple…”
“Anything that grows on trees is wild for $7,” says another. declared.
But some are wondering if the TikTokker’s story is legitimate.
“It’s 3.99 a pound.” said. “On average, you get two to three apples per pound. Perhaps her anxiety tipped her over the scale.”
Some criticized shoppers who were still paying for the fruit, saying it should have been left in the store.
“Shop at Walmart instead,” said one uninterested commenter. he sneered.
