But it’s for a 2019 BMW i3, which has twice the battery and twice the EV-only range as my 2014. It will probably sell for around $10,000, but is it worth it? Help me decide!

You can see that my i3 has a larger screen and a Harmon Kardon audio system. In fact, this 2019 is going to be a downgrade when it comes to the interior. But the cabin still looks cool and it has Apple Carplay, so I guess you can swap out the seats and door panels…
But you don’t really need 150 miles of range. My i3 gets the job done 70-80 miles 99% of the time. That 1 percent doesn’t consume enough fuel to make up for the $5 he spends on a 2019 model any time in the next 10 years.
That said, my i3’s original battery only lasted 135,000 miles and 9 years. If you plan on keeping your car for a while (and you are), you can buy a 2019 model and put off replacing the battery for at least another nine years. In fact, I think the 2019 battery packs will last even longer because of the improved chemistry.
But now we are talking about the future almost 10 years from now. No one knows what the world’s battery situation will be like then. Maybe I should just keep the $4-5 and continue to enjoy a car that I know has a lot of problems with (almost no problems) and love the person I’m with?
