Sony has announced the launch of a new smartphone “Sony Xperia 1 VI”. The phone uses AI technology to improve the camera and display and features a new telephoto lens. Let’s take a look!
The gap between smartphones and cameras is closing as companies introduce new technology advancements and AI capabilities to both worlds. Many of the features found in cameras are now available on top smartphone models like the iPhone 15 Pro and this new Sony Xperia 1 VI, so sensor size is the main difference between the two.
New lens and AI-assisted shooting
The first notable feature of the Xperia 1 VI is the new up to 7.1x telephoto optical zoom lens with versatile focal lengths covering from 85mm to 170mm. The phone is also equipped with a 24mm lens with an image sensor called “Exmor T for mobile”, which ensures good performance in low light and for focus tracking and identifying different human postures. It also has AI. With a maximum shooting magnification of approximately 2x and a minimum shooting distance of 4cm, it is also effective for macro photography.
Enhanced display and sound
Recognizing that we are increasingly using our smartphones for entertainment purposes, Sony decided to “bring TV quality to your screen.” The display of Xperia 1 VI uses AI image quality adjustment technology by BRAVIA. Sony says the picture quality of BRAVIA TV has been recreated on the phone, using AI remastering technology to improve contrast, color and clarity. The display is 1.5 times brighter than the previous model and uses AI to adjust highlights in real time to avoid clipping.
Sound has also been improved with new premium audio circuitry for 3.5mm wired headphones and new improved speakers that reduce distortion at high volumes and optimize low-frequency output for higher sound pressure levels. Xperia 1 VI supports Hi-Res Audio, Hi-Res Audio Wireless, LDAC, Bluetooth LE Audio (Low Energy), and Snapdragon Sound.
New apps and improved battery life
Sony emphasized the autonomy of the phone by putting a 5,000 mAh battery in a thinner body than previous models. According to Sony, the heat dissipation system, low-power display, and power efficiency technology allow for more than 36 hours of continuous playback. The battery charges to 50% in about 30 minutes, but Battery Care and Xperia Adaptive Charging ensure the battery won’t be overloaded while charging.
Sony has also updated the Xperia 1 VI camera app, which features a user-friendly interface. The app includes tools such as special shooting modes and customizable color presets such as “Creative Looks,” as well as a new Pro Video mode with advanced controls. Touch tracking allows users to automatically adjust color and brightness.

The Sony Xperia 1 VI will cost around £1299/€1399 and will be available for purchase from early June. Learn more about. Click here for Sony’s website.
