Just two days before the final regular season home game of the year, Iowa State superstar and NCAA women’s basketball scoring record holder Caitlin Clark waived her final year of eligibility and entered the upcoming WNBA Draft. announced to declare.
An hour after Clark shared the news on social media, the Indiana Fever quickly issued a warning to those who own the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft:
The Indiana Fever finished 10th in the WNBA last season with a 13-27 record, but the team, players (current and former) and fans already seem excited about Clark’s future.
Last season, the Fever also held the No. 1 overall pick and decided to select three-time AP All-America first-team Alliyah Boston from South Carolina.
Boston and Clark last shared the court in March when Iowa defeated top-seeded South Carolina in the Final Four of the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Now, the two will likely share the court in the upcoming WNBA season.
Tennis legend and women’s sports advocate Billie Jean King also took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to show her support and excitement for Clark’s decision to head to the WNBA.
But her time playing in college isn’t over yet before she heads to the big leagues.
Clark is expected to pass Pete Maravich as NCAA Division I’s all-time leading scorer on Saturday’s Senior Night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Clark needs just 17 points to pass Pistol Pete.
In the final game of the regular season, Iowa State is scheduled to face No. 2 Ohio State, which recently won its second straight Big Ten title. It all ends Sunday at 1pm ET and can be seen on FOX.
