Starfield was released in September 2023 and has seen a steady decline in player numbers since. On platforms like Steam, Starfield is now on par with (or worse than) the likes of Fallout 4 and Skyrim. For the most part, fans of Bethesda’s space-traveling RPG have been patiently waiting for news of the game’s first major expansion, Shattered Space.
Those who purchased the “superior edition” of Starfield already have access to Shattered Space, which was named before Starfield was released. But nearly seven months after Starfield’s launch, no one is any wiser about Shattered Space.
That may be about to change.
We Can Hope
A small suggestion, but a suggestion nonetheless. It was recently discovered through SteamDB that Starfield’s listing on the platform was updated with an “unknown app” appearing in his DLC section of the game. This is a new addition to the game’s metadata, but it’s unclear what the change indicates.
To put this in perspective, if you visit the same section of SteamDB for Fallout 4, you’ll see a list of the game’s downloadable content, including Nuka-World and Vault-Tec Workshop.
This could hint at something coming soon that Bethesda Game Studios is preparing but would rather keep quiet about for now.
SteamDB is a treasure trove of tidbits of information like this. The platform’s inherent transparency makes it impossible to hide anything. This is the first indication that something “additional” is coming to Starfield, but we don’t yet know if it’s Shattered Spaces or some smaller, less important DLC.
In the coming months, Bethesda will open its Creation Kit to modders, introducing the first major expansion into the somewhat barren environment of the biggest game it’s ever created (at some point). Some will argue that it’s too little, too late, but there’s no doubt that this will bring a huge number of players back to the game. something It will be released.
