Colombian novelist Gabriel García Márquez’s 1967 masterpiece begins One hundred years of solitude. The iconic opening refrain is also used in the first teaser trailer for Netflix’s upcoming animated TV adaptation, which will be released on Wednesday (April 17).
The first sentence of this novel is one of the most admired in modern literature because it immediately grabs the reader’s attention.
