Popular video game company EA (Electronic Arts) will lay off nearly 670 people, or 5% of its workforce. CEO Andrew Wilson said the move was to “streamline our operations and deliver a deeper, more connected experience for our fans around the world.” Ta. According to media reports, EA will have approximately 13,400 employees as of 2023.
“We are also retiring the game and moving away from developing future licensed IP that we do not believe will be successful in a changing industry,” Wilson wrote in a memo to staff.
The job cuts will support EA’s “strategic priorities and growth initiatives.”
“We continue to optimize our global real estate footprint to best support our business,” said Wilson.
EA laid off about 6% of its workforce in March last year amid global macroeconomic uncertainty.
At the time, Wilson told employees that the company would “move away from projects that don’t contribute to our strategy, review our real estate footprint and restructure some of our teams” as the company focused on its overall portfolio.
Earlier this week, Sony announced it would lay off about 900 people, or 8% of its PlayStation division’s workforce.
